What is an Operating System?


An Operating System is a program that manages a computer's resources and performs basic tasks such as recognising keyboard input, sending output to the display screen or printer, managing files and directories, controlling peripheral devices, and allocating system resources to other software programs running on the computer. For most people this is Either Microsoft Windows or Macintosh.
